They stood under the awning at the back door of the cafe, facing a small parking area where there was only one car, an ancient silver Peugeot - most likely Sandrine's.  Addison bent down and kissed Tess - and yes, it did occur to him that he'd consumed an entire bottle of wine, followed by a glass of champagne.

Book Review: Storm Prey

From Publishers WeeklyStarred Review. At the start of bestseller Sandford's superb 20th Lucas Davenport thriller (after Wicked Prey), the getaway vehicle from a botched early morning robbery, which results in a pharmacy employee's death, almost collides with the car driven by Lucas's surgeon wife, Weather Karkinnen. Weather, who was on her way to work at the Minnesota Medical Research Center, becomes a key witness. Sandford masterfully handles both sides of the equation as the thieves—planner Lyle Mack, his brother, Joe, and their henchmen—work to cover their crime. The investigation belongs to Minneapolis deputy chief Marcy Sherrill, but Lucas of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension pulls out all the stops to protect his wife. Sandford creates additional drama throughout as Weather and a skilled team of doctors perform an operation to separate twins joined at the skull. Sharply drawn characters, intricate plotting, and smooth dialogue make this a sure-fire winner. 500,000 first printing; author tour. (May)

I LOVE John Sandford's Prey Series.  I have read all 20 books, including his latest, Storm Prey.  I have enjoyed all of them (to the point of going out and buying them in hardback as soon as they come out), but I do have some favorites and I just added Storm Prey to that list.

This one reels you in from the first page.  All the characters were back together working to solve the big case and of course keep Weather safe along the way.  I liked how Sandford made the "bad guys" so deep with their characters and details.  Just an awesome read, could barely put it down.

Now to wait for the 21st book ... the countdown has begun.

Cornbread Casserole

I have been really trying to make an effort to make new meals ... I get so tired of having the same things over and over.  I follow quite a few Food Blogs to get inspired and to steal recipes of course!

Recently I made a Cornbread Casserole thanks to the recipe I found on Hon, what's for dinner?  I read through the recipe on the blog and knew I HAD to make it.  I'm so glad I did - it was SO YUMMY.

Recipe notes/deviations:

* I used hamburger meat (you could use turkey);
* I didn't have a can of green chilis - so I used part of a can of Rotel;
* I didn't quite have enough cornbread mix to cover the entire top of the casserole (as you can see above), I just used what I had left after coating the bottom of the dish.  Next time I will make up 2 boxes of cornbread mix (I always use Jiffy).

And there WILL be a next time ... this dish was great the first night I made it and still great heated up for left overs.  Thanks Sienna!

I've always wondered what I would have done about the diamond ring in my bra under other circumstances. If I'd had a choice.
